Operating Procedures
Detailed protocols regarding our Annual General Meetings, grant selection cycles, and funding capabilities.
Annual General Meeting
The Foundation holds its Annual General Meeting in conjunction with the joint annual meeting of GAC and MAC. During this time, the Foundation conducts normal business and acts on the recommendations of the Grants Selection Committee to award new grants for the coming year.
A call for applications is published annually in the winter issue of GEOLOG, the newsletter of the Geological Association of Canada, and is also placed on the Foundation’s website.
Grant Deadlines & Decisions
Decisions for applications received by this deadline are made at the Annual General Meeting.
Applications received between April 1st and Oct 31st are decided at a Special Meeting before year-end.
Funding Capacity
Historically, the Foundation has disbursed between $25,000 and $50,000 annually.
Enhanced Giving Power
With the recent bequest from the estate of Jerome Remick III, our capacity has been significantly enhanced. We now expect to make more than $150,000 available as grants annually.
* The amount available is dependent upon investment income, a portion of which is reinvested to guard against inflation.
Selection Criteria
Each application is reviewed for compatibility with the Foundation's objectives. Grants support activities of national interest and broad significance.
